Spring has sprung!   It looks so beautiful outside and the kids are excited to play in the warm weather… if only those colds, bug bites & sniffles could stay away!

1. Try Lolleez to soothe a sore throat. Our kids love them.

2- Use a banana to stop that itch.  Bug bite?   Poison Ivy?  Take a banana peel and rub it on the itch for a few seconds.  The sugar in the peel helps the bite feel better.  It will help with the itching, but will not solve the problem (like the oil that is left on your skin by the poison)

3. Freeze a sponge for an ice pack.   Wet a sponge and squeeze out the excess water.  Put it into a ziplock bag and freeze it.  When it is frozen, remove it from the bag and place it on the bruise or sore spot.  It works like an ice pack.  Our kids LOVE this!

4. Make your own electrolyte drink from home.  We were buying the brand name electrolyte drink each time that our kids were sick, until a holistic doctor near us (we live near Charlotte) recommended that we make our own.

She said to mix 1-quart water, 2 Tablespoons sugar and 1 teaspoon of salt together.  You can add a few tablespoons of fruit juice to flavor it a bit.   (our kids like this ONLY when it is very cold).
It is simple to make & you almost always have the ingredients at home.

5. Use rubbing alcohol to soothe an upset stomach.  Soak a cotton swap in rubbing alcohol and sniff it to help relieve nausea.  My husband has been doing this for years and the kids do it, too.   They don’t like the smell, but they do say that it helps.  I haven’t had to try it myself… yet (knock on wood!)
